Unique wool almost does not demand leaving: it is enough to be combed twice a week. Comb a cat carefully: wool has to be rather curly, than wavy.
During the periods of a seasonal molt (2 times a year) is desirable to comb out the American wire-haired cat more often.
As a rule, American wire-haired cats quite hardy and healthy creations. Average life expectancy of the American wire-haired cats – about 15 years. However there are diseases to which they are predisposed:
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
- Dysplasia of coxofemoral joints.
- Polikistoz of kidneys.
