Rage – the dangerous viral disease affecting central nervous system. An infecting agent is RNA-containing лиссавирус families of rabdovirus. The activator usually gets to an organism at a sting the infected animal. Infection is possible at hit of blood, saliva of a sick animal on the injured skin. Probability of infection increases at infection of deep wounds. The wound or a sting is closer to the head, rather the first symptoms of a disease appear.is surprised>
Any warm-blooded animal and birds can get sick with rage. However the susceptibility at different types considerably differs. Among wild animals is more often than others foxes are ill. Predators are more subject to a disease, than herbivorous. However all species of pets – cows, pigs, goats, rabbits and also rodents, bats, rats and other types can hurt. The disease of the animals who are contained in cages and other isolated rooms is improbable.
The rage virus instantly perishes at a temperature of the boiling water. Action of ultraviolet rays and usual means of disinfection (water solutions of alkalis, chloric lime, chloroamine, hydrogen peroxide) are pernicious for a rage virus. However in the nature (for example, in corpses) even at low temperatures it can remain 2-3 months. At temperatures below 0ºС the activator keeps viability up to 2 years.
Most often cats catch other infected animal in case of a sting. The disease is capable to be transferred even in a case of hit of the infected saliva on the injured skin injured mucous lips and a mouth.
At hit in an organism the virus together with blood is brought to long shoots of nervous cages – to neurons. In nervous cages active reproduction begins. On channels of spinal trunks the virus of rage gets into a brain. The highest concentration of a virus is formed in big hemispheres of a brain and in a cerebellum. Over time the virus is found in all fabrics and liquids of the infected animal.
from the moment of a sting and before emergence of the first signs there can pass the different period of time . It depends on the general condition of an organism of a cat, the place of a sting and specific features of an animal. The incubatory period at cats most often is 1-1.5 months. However cases when the incubatory period lasted over half a year were observed. During this period symptoms and manifestations of a disease are absent.
Certain individuals can have an itch on the place of a sting. Then the cat can intensively lick, comb and gnaw this place. It is found out that the virus of rage develops in saliva of a sick animal approximately one week prior to emergence of the first symptoms of a disease. Stings of the infected individual become dangerous to surrounding people and other animals.
Distinguish 3 forms of a disease. The violent form at which the first symptoms of rage are caused by atypical behavior of an animal is most peculiar to cats:
At the first stage diseases the cat becomes immoderately tender, up to persistence, timid or aggressive. Quite often the animal looks for secluded corners and hides in them, shows apathy unusual for them, does not come to call. Can respond to use of force with aggression or tries to leave the house. This stage from 1 to 3 days when quite often owners do not pay attention to behavior of a domestic cat as it can be caused by too many reasons lasts.
Вторая a stage diseases is shown by obvious inadequacy. The main symptom of rage is the uncharacteristic aggression. The cat can rush not only on people and animals, but also on lifeless objects. At the same time is scratched and bites so strongly that breaks teeth. The infected individual quite often attacks suddenly, for no reason at all.
The periods of nervousness alternate with the periods of calm and powerlessness. The cat refuses habitual food, but quite often gnaws a tree, the earth, the whitewashed walls and other inedible objects. Characteristic symptom of a disease is change of a voice. the Cat begins to mew by a hoarse voice, sometimes sounds become similar on howl.
The slightly opened mouth and salivation – characteristic symptoms of rage. The sick animal cannot normally drink water. All these symptoms are connected with the developing paralysis of muscles of a throat. This stage of a disease lasts from several hours to 3 days. Then attacks of aggression weaken, the infected individual cannot is, to drink.
the Third stage diseases in many cases is followed by spasms and the progressing paralysis which first of all affects a tail, back extremities and bodies of a basin. Then extends to other muscles. The animal perishes from paralysis of respiratory muscles or cardiac arrest. From the beginning of a disease to death there pass no more than 10-11 days.
At a silent form of rage the inadequacy expressed by causeless aggression or a depression is practically absent. Within 2-4 days paralysis of guttural and maxillary muscles, muscles of extremities and all body develops.
Recently cases of atypical manifestation of rage became frequent. In such situations the disease can last several months without strong characteristic indications. But at the infected animal enteritis and gastritis develop. At a cat constant vomiting and a diarrhea begins, exhaustion develops.
At emergence of symptoms of a disease it is already impossible to save an animal. Death comes from exhaustion and full paralysis. In rare instances manages to save life if to begin treatment during the first hours after a sting.
It is important to know that at the majority of animals saliva contains a rage virus in a week after infection. The only effective way of protection is annual vaccination. Now all pets are subject to an annual rage inoculation. Evasion from an inoculation threatens the owner with a penalty and withdrawal of an animal. In veterinary practice the greatest distribution was gained by the vaccines containing the inactivated virus.
The majority of modern vaccines contain the inactivated viruses of several different strains. In the territory of the CIS veterinarians use the following vaccines against rage: Paris Pasteur, SAD, ERA, Vnukovo-32, Shchyolkovo-51, CU-80, BHK-21/13, WI-38, CEF, Vero and others. In some vaccines the inactivated strains of rabdovirus combine with antigens of a virus of panleukopenia of cats, a kalitsivirusa and a parvovirusa of cat's.
Before the beginning of the 19th century rage was a fatal disease both for the person, and for animals. It is widespread everywhere. Most often people catch at stings of dogs . Annually about 55,000 people perish from this disease. More than 15 million people annually receive inoculations after stings suspicious animals.
Among the caught people the big percent is made by children and teenagers. At any contact with a suspicious animal, at hit of saliva on skin it is necessary to begin treatment of the person. The virus is so small that can get into an organism through the microscopic injuries of skin imperceptible to an eye. If the animal with suspicion of rage manages to be isolated, watch it within 10 days. If for this term symptoms of a disease are not shown, stop treatment of the bitten person.
Therefore at the slightest suspicion of rage it is necessary to call veterinarians immediately. Special attention needs to be paid on the complicated swallowing or if the cat often chokes during the eating of food or drink of water. The veterinarian can make the diagnosis on the basis of clinical signs. If the diagnosis is confirmed, the animal is liable to destruction, and its corpse – to burning. It is forbidden to treat sick animals.
Rage symptoms at animal different types are quite similar. Even the wild sick animal loses sensation of fear, comes on the territory of human settlements. Rage is most widespread in the nature among the types relating to dog: wolves, jackals, foxes. The sick individual can overcome on some tens of kilometers a day, carrying an infection. The inadequacy of behavior and abnormal aggression of an animal have to become a reason for its destruction.
