After World War II the Burmese breed almost completely disappeared, but selectors actively started working and by crossing of Siamese and Persian cats restored Burmans. About origin of sacred Burma very interesting legend goes. It says that in far times for a grief there was a Buddhist temple of the goddess to Cunhuanqie. The blue-eyed goddess had unusual beauty and patronized souls of Buddhist monks. Mun Ha who had a snow-white cat by the name of Sinkh was one of the oldest monks in this temple. Long-haired cats with unusually expressive honey eyes together with monks protected the sacred temple and the goddess-patroness's statue.
In one of nights monks and pets wakened from sudden noise. It turned out that the sacred temple was attacked by robbers who intended to profane the sacred place and to kidnap the goddess. Brave monks and animals rose in defense of the patroness, but malefactors were stronger. The oldest of monks was killed by the robber, and his devoted pet Sinkh climbed up his head, hissed. And its wool suddenly became golden, eyes got a heavenly blue shade. Robbers receded, and thus the brave cat prevented kidnapping of the goddess. The devoted pet remained near a body of the self-sacrificing owner up to reunion of their souls. After this incident all cats who lived in the sacred temple from snow-white turned into golden, and eyes of their steel light blue. Pets became sacred, and it presented snow-white gloves on pads.
