GENERAL IMPRESSION: the American cocker spaniel – the least representative of sports group. It possesses the strong compact case, the relief and noble head, ideal balance and the size. The American cocker a vysokoperyody dog with direct front extremities, the falling line of top which is a little going down to strong, moderately sloping brawny croup. This is the dog capable to move at a considerable speed in combination with big endurance. Besides, he has to be graceful, cheerful, strong, well balanced, in the movement has to show the strong aspiration to work. The dog well balanced in all parts is much more desirable, than a dog with big contrast of merits and demerits.
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS: the Distance from a ledge of a chest bone to a sciatic hillock is a little more, than distance from withers to the earth. The case has to be sufficient length to provide a rectilinear and free step the dog never has to be long and stocky.
BEHAVIOUR / TEMPERAMENT: Balanced temperament, without any hint on shyness.
HEAD: Well balanced head, is proportional to all dog. Clever, live, soft and touching expression.
Skull: Roundish, but it is not excessive, without any hint on the plane nadbrovny arches are accurately expressed. Under eyes the head is well filled.
Transition from a forehead to a muzzle: Expressed.
nose Lobe: The sufficient size, it is proportional to a muzzle, with nostrils, well developed, typical for sports dogs. The nose lobe — black at black, black and subdead and black-and-white dogs at dogs of other colors it can be brown, hepatic or black — the more darkly, the better. Color of a lobe of a nose is in harmony with color of an inking a century.
Muzzle: Wide and deep. For the correct balance the distance from transition to a lobe of a nose is equal to a half of distance from transition to a skull base.
of the Lip: An upper lip full and sufficient depth to close the lower jaw.
Jaws/teeth: Jaws rectangular and equal. Teeth strong and strong, not too small are also closed in a nozhnitseobrazny bite.
of the Cheekbone: Not speakers.
of an Eye: Eyeballs round and filled, look strictly forward. The shape of eye eyelids gives them slightly almond-shaped form of an eye not drowned and not goggle. Color of an iris of the eye — dark brown and, generally, the more darkly, the better.
Ears: Trailing, long, from thin skin, with a dense obroslost, are put not above the line of the lower part of an eye.
NECK: Shay rather long to allow a nose to concern freely the earth, brawny, without suspension on a throat. It highly rises from shovels, with a small nape and is narrowed in a junction with the head.
Line of top: An inclined plane towards a brawny croup.
Back: A back strong and gradually inclined from shovels to the basis of the stopped tail.
Breast: Deep, its lower part is not higher than the level of elbows in front a breast rather wide freely to contain lungs and heart, however not so wide to hinder strictly rectilinear movements of front extremities. Edges deep and well curved.
TAIL: the Stopped tail continues the line of top or has to be a little raised never is raised as at a terrier up or lowered down, showing shyness. When the dog is recovered, she cheerfully wags a tail.

FRONT EXTREMITIES: Front extremities parallel, direct, with strong frame, brawny, are located close to a body and under shovels. Paws are compact, large with firm small pillows. They cannot be turned out inside, or outside.
of the Shovel: Shovels are taken well away back, forming a corner a shoulder - a scapular joint about 90 degrees that allows a dog to move easily, far throwing out extremities forward. Shovels are inclined, are clearly outlined, without ledges and are put so that the highest points of shovels are at an angle, providing a wide bend of edges.
Elbows: At survey sideways — front extremities vertical, the elbow is precisely under the highest point of a shovel.
: Short and strong. The first hanging fingers on front extremities can be stopped.
BACK EXTREMITIES: At survey behind back extremities parallel in the movement and in a rack. With strong frame and muscles.
of Grain: Wide in jobbers, roundish and brawny.
of the Hip: Powerful and accurately outlined.
Knee joints: With moderate corners. Strong, without shift in a rack and in the movement.
of the Instep: Strong, short. Pribyly fingers on hind legs can be removed.
of the PAW: Compact, large, roundish and with firm small pillows are not turned out neither inside, nor outside.
of the MOVEMENT: the American cocker spaniel, though is the smallest of sports dogs, possesses a pace, typical for sports dogs. The necessary condition of good movements is a balance between a front and back part, It is pushed with strong and powerful back extremities, correctly constructed humeral belt in such a way that allows it to move ahead a wide step without deviations, counterbalancing the jog force of back extremities. First of all, its movements coordinated, smooth and easy. The dog has to cover space in the movement excessive physical activity it is not necessary to confuse with the correct movement.
QUALITY of WOOL: On the head — short and thin on a body — average length with enough the protecting underfur. Ears, a breast, a stomach and extremities are well dressed by the decorating wool, but not excessively plentiful to hide natural outlines of a cocker spaniel and his movement or an impression of the sports dog who is moderately dressed by wool. The structure of wool is most important. Wool silky, direct or a little wavy, demanding small leaving. The excessive obroslost, a kucheryavost or softness of wool are severely punished. It is undesirable to use the electric machine to processing of wool on a back. Trimming to emphasize the correct lines of a dog, has to be made so that to seem as it is possible more naturally.
Black version: Purely black, including black and subdead. Black has to be brilliant shades brown or liverny in wool are undesirable. A small amount white on a breast and/or a throat is allowed white color on any other site disqualifies a dog.
the Any Continuous Colour Except Black (ACCEB) — (ASCOB): any continuous color, except black in the range from light-pale-yellow to chestnut, including brown and brown and subdead. Color has to be one shade, but lighter decorating wool is allowed. A small amount white on a breast and/or on a throat is allowed white color in other places disqualifies a dog.
Spotty color: Two or cleaner, well differentiated colors, one of which has to be white: black and white red and white (red can be in the range from light-pale-yellow to chestnut), brown and white, roan (speckled), including a combination of any of such colors with subdead. It is preferable that burn marks were in the same places, as at black and brown and subdead dogs. Roan (speckled) dogs are classified as spotty, and can be any usual speckled options. The primary color which is 90% or more has to be disqualified.
of the Burn mark: Color of burn marks can be from light-pale-yellow to chestnut, and they have to make no more than 10% of the main color. The burn marks exceeding 10% of the main color are disqualified. In case burn marks are available for black or LSOKCh (ASCOB) of versions, marks have to be located as follows:
the Accurate spot over each eye
On each side muzzles and on cheekbones
On inside of ears
On all paws
Under a tail
On a breast — is not obligatory both existence, and absence is not punished.
of the Burn mark which are badly visible or are looked through only in the form of traces, have to be punished. Burn marks on a muzzle which rise up and merge, are also punished. The lack of burn marks at black or LSOKCh of versions in any of the specified specific places at, nevertheless, subdead dogs disqualifies them.
Ideal height in withers for an adult dog — 15 inches (38.1 cm), for boughs — 14 inches (35.6 cm). Height can vary within half-inch from the specified ideal sizes. Dogs whose growth exceeds 15.5 inches (39.4 cm), or boughs higher than 14.5 inches (36.8 cm) are disqualified. Growth of adult dogs is lower than 14.5 inches (36.8 cm) and the bough is lower than adults 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) is a shortcoming. Growth is determined by the line perpendicular to the earth going from top of shovels when the dog costs in a natural rack with the front and back extremities parallel to the line of measurement.
SHORTCOMINGS: Any deviation from the above-named points has to be considered as a shortcoming which assessment has to be in an exact ratio with degree of this deviation.
