the Name Samoyed occurs from the Samoyed tribes in the north of Russia and Siberia. In the Southern part of the region they used white, black and brown dogs in a northern part of a dog were purely white, had pleasant temperament and were used as hunting and draft dogs. Samoyeds lived near the owners, even used them as hot-water bottles. The British zoologist Ernst Kilburn-Scott spent three months among the Samoyed tribes in 1889. Returning to England, he brought a brown dog by nickname Sabarka. Later he imported cream to a bough of "Uayti Pechor" and a white dog Moustapha from Siberia. These several dogs also became a basis for removal of the European Samoyeds. The first standard was created in England in 1909.

General view

Average size, elegant, white Arctic spitz-dog. The appearance makes an impression of force, endurance, charm, softness, advantage and self-confidence.

The expression of a muzzle known as "The Samoyed smile", consists of eye shape and slightly curved corners of a mouth.

The sexual dimorphism is pronounced.

Important proportions: length of a body is about 5% more, than height in withers. Depth of a body is slightly less than a half of height in withers. Length of a muzzle is approximately equal to skull length.

Behaviour and temperament

Friendly, open, vigilant, active. The hunting instinct is expressed slightly. Not shy and not aggressive. Very much cannot be used as security dogs.

Powerful and wedge-shaped.

Skull: The widest place — between ears. Furrows between an eye are slightly visible.

Transition from a forehead to a muzzle: it is accurately expressed, but is not too noticeable.

Nose: well developed, preferably black. During some periods of year the pigment of a nose can disappear (a so-called "winter nose") however at the edges always the dark pigment remains.

Muzzle: strong and deep, gradually narrowed to a nose, not pointed, not heavy or square. Nose back straight line.

Lips: skintight, black and quite full. Mouth corners slightly curved, form a characteristic "Smile of the Samoyed".

Jaws/teeth: nozhnitseobrazny bite. Teeth and jaws strong. Normal tooth alignment.

Eyes: dark brown color, a little slanting and almond-shaped. Expression of "smile", in eyes is reflected kindness, keenness and ingenuity. Black pupils.

Ears: standing, quite small, thick, triangular and slightly rounded off on tips. They have to be mobile, highly put.

Withers: well expressed.

Back: average length, brawny and direct at a bough is a little longer, than at dogs.

Waist: Short, very strong and expressed.

Croup: strong, brawny and slightly sloping.

Breast: wide, deep, reaches almost elbows. Edges are well curved.

Stomach: it is moderately tightened.

Tail: it is put quite highly. When the dog in the movement, a tail is bent on a back or on the party, but can hang at rest, reaching skakatelny joints.

Front extremities:

General impression: brawny, powerful. At survey in front direct and parallel.

Elbows: adjoin to a body.

Forepaws: oval with long fingers, flexible are also directed directly forward.

Back extremities:

General view: at survey behind direct and parallel with very strong muscles.

Hips: average length, rather wide and brawny.

Knees: with well expressed corners.

Hinder legs: similar to lobbies. Pribyly fingers have to be removed.

Movements: powerful, free and externally tireless, with a long step. Good exit of front extremities and good pushing away by back.

Wool: plentiful, dense. The Samoyed is a dog with double structure of wool: short, soft and dense underfur and longer, rigid and direct ostevy wool. Wool has to form a collar around a neck and shoulders, to frame the head, especially at dogs. On the head and on a front part of legs wool short and direct on outer side of ears short and smooth. Inside ears have to be well trimmed. On back side of hips wool forms trousers. Protective hair grow between fingers. The tail has to be plentifully covered with wool. Wool boughs frequent well and more softly on texture, than a dog. Wool of the correct structure always has to have the special sparkling gloss.

Color: purely white, cream or biscuit-white. However the dog should not look light brown.

Height in withers: Ideal growth: a dog — 57 cm (admission ± 3 cm), boughs — 53 cm (admission ± 3 cm).
