the American pit bull terriers – quite ancient breed which arose more than 3 centuries ago. Combative dogs were their ancestors: Old English bulldogs and also white terriers who were used for cruel entertainments: set on bears and bulls or forced to fight with each other. As a result of crossing of bulldogs and terriers it was succeeded to receive almost ideal fighter: on the one hand, strong and aggressive, and with another — dexterous and fast.
American pit bull terrierLater the European immigrants took
dogs with themselves on the American continent where dog fights began to gain the increasing popularity though on the historical homeland of these dogs, in England, bloody entertainment already was under a ban.
Long time the breed had no name. Dogs were "called" bull terriers, bulldogs and pitdoga.
In the seventies began to call the 19th centuries of these dogs the American pit bull terriers, and this name remained behind breed still. However still long time utter chaos reigned: the American pit bull terriers and the American Staffordshire terriers were registered in some clubs, and it led to confusion.
In 1909 was formed the American association of manufacturers. They insisted on the ban of dog fights, and the American pit bull terriers began to compete in peace disciplines: pulling of weights (veytpuling) and exhibitions.
of FCI did not recognize breed as there is no general standard, and pit bull terriers can differ very strongly. However the American pit bull terrier was recognized by the Joint club of dog breeding (UKC – United Kennel Club). Ring became the first American pit bull terrier registered there Bennett.
Periodically public campaigns against so-called "fighting dogs" arose, and the American pit bull terriers got to millstones more than once. They were demanded to limit in the rights and even to forbid. Therefore in some countries import of the American pit bull terriers is forbidden, and those who live there have to be sterilized.
It concerns Denmark, Great Britain and some other countries. In some lands of Germany special permission to their contents is required, it is possible to walk only in a muzzle and on a lead, and the tax several times is more, than on representatives of other breeds.
However the American pit bull terriers are not monsters at all. They will behave as they will be taught by owners. Now dog fights are forbidden in all civilized countries of the world therefore on combativity of the American pit bull terriers we will not stop. Let's tell only that today this breed is used, generally as a dog partner and also the rescuer and the therapist.
However still exist prejudices which prevent promoting of this breed.
