History of the Oryol trotter
of the Oryol trotters removed at Hrenovsky horse-breeding center (Russian Empire) in the 2nd half of the 18th century. For removal of breed used the Arab, Dutch, Danish, Mecklenburg and other horses.
breed is obliged by the Name to the creator – the count Alexey Orlov-Chesmensky who devoted life to breeding work. Connection in one horse of beauty, grace and dryness of the Arab horses with power, massiveness and rysisty qualities of draft breeds of Western Europe was the purpose. At the same time horses had to be universal (both under a saddle, and in a plow, and in a team) and hardy, to maintain severe climate and awful roads.

the Oryol trotter is considered the Founder of breed the Arab stallion Sour cream whom for the huge money (60 thousand rubles) Orlov got from the sultan of Turkey. The travel of a valuable horse to the new house lasted about 2 years and came to the end in 1776
For the Arab horse Sour cream was very large and elegant, and because of the 19th pair of edges instead of standard for horses the 18th his back was longer, than usually. The stallion was obliged by a nickname almost purely white (or if it is correct to speak, light gray) to color. Unfortunately, in the new house Sour cream did not live also years, but managed to leave 5 offsprings. The Sour cream skeleton long time was stored in the museum of stud. Descendants of Sour cream laid the foundation for removal of the Oryol trotters, namely – the son Polkan I and the grandson Bars.

Then Orlov transferred horses to the Voronezh province (the village Lousy) where founded stud.
All horses brought at the Hrenovsky plant passed tests for playfulness: in the summer – in droshky, and in the winter – in sledge. Distances were both short, and long (up to 22 km). For further breeding use the most hardy were selected and quick on a lynx. The count Orlov began to organize the "Moscow races" which soon became considerable entertainment for residents of Moscow.
In 1936 a stallion the Bull-calf of bay color born at Hrenovsky stud set a world record of playfulness – ran a distance of 3200 m, having kept within 5 minutes 45 seconds.
Soon the Oryol trotters began to extend across the Russian Empire and also were exported abroad. However, unfortunately, a condition of keeping and tests in the homeland of these horses in many cases were awful as training methods. Therefore also results were often worse, than could be. Nevertheless, the Oryol trotters were widely used as working and traveling horses and also improved a livestock of country horses.
By the end of the 19th century began to arrive in the Russian Empire standartbredny horses – the American trotters who over and over again won against the Oryol trotters on races. They were not so beautiful and elegant, but got divorced more systemically and trained better. However, Americans transferred not only horses, but also the system of a training and tests. Races began "to be Americanized" — in particular, the distance changed (instead of 3 versts – 1 mile – 1609 m), and horses began to be harnessed not in heavy drokzh, and in the two-wheeled lungs of "American" later called "rocking chairs" (in the USA and Europe they were called by "tag"). Horses of steel though to protect a little from injuries though races still remain very traumatic and, to put it mildly, a type of tests, unpleasant for horses.
Many of konezavodchik refused the Oryol trotters and began to part hybrids (American-Oryol). They surpassed the Oryol trotters in playfulness, but nevertheless conceded to Americans. The Russian trotters became descendants of these metises.
Only thanks to the Oryol trotter to the Robust fellow who set a playfulness record at a distance of 1600 m, interest in breed revived. However, it left few foals as died relatively young (at the age of 13 years) during civil war, and up to now his line did not remain.
Civil war considerably reduced the number of the Oryol trotters, however in their USSR began to part strenuously again. From 20th years of the 20th century of prilitiye of blood of other breeds it is not allowed, that is the method of cultivation became thoroughbred.
One of the main lines of the Oryol trotters is the line of the Square. This is a bay stallion who became not only the champion on an exterior, but also showed outstanding playfulness. Established to a square 2 bronze monuments – at ENEA and at the Moscow horse-breeding center.
One more well-known line – the line of the Peony gray in stallion apples. He also had an outstanding exterior and set several records of playfulness. And by the number of quick descendants nobody was compared to it.

to the Russian trotters. Very small number of "residents of Oryol" could compete with descendants of "Americans" on the racetrack.
In the nineties the number of the Oryol trotters sharply decreased the 20th centuries, and in many farms they just died of hunger or sent all livestock to meat-processing plants. A number of enthusiasts tries to revive breed, however it still is under the threat of disappearance.
Today the Oryol rysisty breed contains 8 main lines among which leader is the line of the Peony.
the Oryol trotters get divorced on Hrenovsky, Chesmensky, the Moscow, Perm and Altai studs (Russia) and also at Dubrovsky stud (Ukraine).
