Six species of crocodiles can run gallop, like horses and reach at the same time the speed of 11 km/h. The group of scientists-veterinarians headed by professor John Hutchinson from London came to such conclusion. Scientists conducted a research with participation of 42 crocodiles of 15 types. During tests of animals forced to move as fast as possible.
the Majority of the large crocodiles similar to alligators and caymans could trot only. However six species of crocodiles showed an opportunity to gallop, moving jumps. It allowed them to gather much bigger speed in comparison with others. Such ability significantly increased chances of rescue from persecutors or successful hunting.
The largest of the galloping reptiles is the Cuban crocodile. In length it reaches 2 m and differs in special aggression.
