Without having a dog for launch of brewery in 1988, Peter Egelston named it Smuttynose. By 1994 Peter was already a happy dog lover, Olivey's owner — half a veymaraner, half the British spaniel. This year the brown ale which brought to brewery glory and became a beer leader was also cooked. Inspired by William Vegman's works (the famous photographer who built compositions for a photo with participation of dogs), Peter used the faithful dog as model for a label and, respectively, the name of the ale.
A black Labrador Could possessed Jim's girl (the owner of the Caldera brewery), Niki. Earlier, when the girl looked after pub, black Could always followed her for work. Until, as Could left the world, it became the blood donor for a sick white Labrador by the name of the Penny of the Lane whom it returned to life and, according to Nikki, the white Labrador mysteriously adopted lines Could. Now Could lives in each line of a Labrador of Penny, and malt liquor Jim cooks in his honor.
The brewer John Nadzhuey cooks craft Dortmundera lager in memory of Max — a gold Labrador hero. Why hero? Because he saved all family of the brewer John from the night fire in their bicentennial house in 2008. Max died next day before John managed to place him on the label of a bottle therefore it immortalized a dog on a label of gold craft lager.
This special seasonal beer cooked on Alaska where there are only several months to grow up components for brewing.

In 1990 George based Brewpub Flying Dog in Aspen, the State of Colorado. Since this brewery to full-fledged brewery in Denver in 1994, and then to modern brewery in Frederik, the State of Maryland, the Flying dog continues to make sense.
